Knoll Celebrate 80 Years With New Chair

To celebrate the brand’s 80th Anniversary, Knoll has re-introduced classics and enhanced icons:

Risom Lounge Chair was designed by Danish designer Jens Risom. In 1941, he met Hans Knoll, an encounter that was to make his name. Risom was commissioned to create a 15-piece furniture collection which set an industry standard for post-war furniture. Risom is best known for this collaboration. His style was Scandinavian with a twist – lots of wood, but always in a curvy organic shape and upholstered in bright, Bauhaus-esque colours. His signature webbed seating is supremely stylish, but was born of necessity. Created just after the war when materials were hard to find, Risom came up with the cotton webbed covering for the wooden Risom lounge chair.

Risom Lounge Chair is Knoll Studio classic, one of the first designs commissioned by the manufacturer. Each chair comes stamped with the studio logo and Jens Risom’s signature. Available with or without arms.

And now, 80 years later, the manufacturer releases the Risom Outdoor Collection.

His first collection of chairs and tables has been used for every application imaginable, from the home to the workplace to hospitality environments. Honoring the collection’s enduring design, selected classics from Risom’s original collection have been re-engineered for outdoor use.

The Risom Outdoor Collection includes a lounge chair without arms and a side chair, both constructed with Sunbrella® fabric webbing designed to resist fading from excessive exposure to sunlight, and a newly introduced ottoman, and a square and round side table – all available in teak. Webbing is offered in 6 distinct colors: charcoal, navy, ochre, carbon, antique beige and fern.
