Why Your Office Walls Should Be Covered In Moss

In support of International Day of Forests on 21 March (2018) – forests get their own day because, as a source of renewable materials, it is very important to raise awareness of the dangers and threats they face due to unsustainable forestry practices – we want to highlight a product that comes straight from the forest.

All modern offices need some form of acoustic dampening and Reindeer Moss is the perfect product for the job. In fact, few other materials with acoustic-absorbance properties offer as many added benefits as moss.

The product was born during a rainy hiking trip in Sweden, out of the discovery that Reindeer Moss has the ability to absorb water and keep the inside of tents dry. After a few years of research at the University of Lund, the founders Oscar and twin brothers Joris & Sander found a way to apply this versatile material as a new kind of sound-absorber for modern living and working spaces. The first Reindeer Moss panel was installed 2014 at a local coffeehouse. Since then, customers have included BMW, Apple, Porsche, BCG, Microsoft, IKEA, and many more.

Reindeer Moss is sustainably harvested (helping forests!) and treated before they become fit for office use. During this phase, the moss “gets put to sleep” which means that it will not grow any further but that it retains its air-purifying and humidity regulating properties. When the relative humidity falls below 35% the moss dries out, releasing moisture into the air, bringing the humidity levels back to 35%. Conversely, when the humidity increases to over 35%, the mos will reabsorb access moisture in the air.

Acoustic moss wall panels are soft to the touch and do not require any maintenance or watering.
